Odd Bits - I now have a week off.....

Yes I now have a week off........in theory.........unless something seriously fails........or breaks.......but thinking positively..........I have a week off.

I've been very busy as usual but have burned out recently so need the break and to deal with a few things that usually carry a lesser priority. (Like updating this site).

So yeah I may post some stuff, I may even replace the site completely and move to Wordpress. (I only use this site for blogging so having a wordpress based site may make this easier).

Other then that I have some paper work to catch up with and photos to digitally process.

Odd Bits - Web site updates stopped again

I've fallen into the trap of not updating this website again. It's not that I don't like doing it I just never have the time these days.

I'm going to try and finish up some projects and posts so hopefully the site will show some sign of life.

It's not just this website that is getting neglected. The wife claims she never see's me, I don't have much time for photography which is probably just as well as I have a huge backlog of post processing to get through.

And

Technical – Blackberry on the cheap, OTA for the rest of us.

So click on read more to see why and how to back up data on a mobile phone :-).

Oh c**k, I accidently deleted the database for my website.

Sort of luckily I have a backup a few days old but it is missing the latest content.

Will try to sort the missing content asap.

I can't stress the importance of backups!

Odd Bits - This site isn't pretty

What? I only just realised that? No.

Compared to some of the new and recently (in the last year) face lifted personal sites it is starting to look a bit of a mess , even my RSS feeds are ugly.

I know the way forward to resolve this as well, all I need to do is:

Migrate the site from Joomla 1.x to 1.5.x
Upgrade all the components and bridges that the site uses to latest versions that work with Joomla 1.5.x
Decide on a new layout with new menus.
Find a new Template and modify if required.
Heavy testing on the site to ensure that all works as expected.
Put new site on this domain. Put the word Beta on the site so people excuse any bugs.

And all the above takes quite a bit of time, which is the problem.

Also this site doesn't get the amount of content I would like. I'm trying but again a lack of time is causing this.

Hopefully the site will get better during the course of the year
